Written by Erica Rose Jackson Well, this is a challenging prompt because I love so many TV shows. I’m constantly adding more to my list of favorites but I’m going to have to be decisive and pick the best three. I guess this has to be based on how long I’ve loved the show, how it’s done in terms of cultural popularity, and if it made some change to my life after I started watching it. Did these shows have a lasting impression on me? Buffy The Vampire Slayer
What made Buffy so important? I was a little lost in high school because I changed schools for the second time starting at my Sophomore year. Buffy gave me what I needed at that time in my life. She was new to Sunnydale but she made friends, despite her calling as the chosen one. Buffy the Vampire Slayer had every aspect I could want in a show: drama, a little horror, comedy, action, a badass female lead, and the Scoobies. Magnum PI (the Original)
The relationship and banter between Magnum and Higgins (played by the late and very talented John Hillerman) was everything. Their fighting and deep, mutual understanding of each other got better with each passing year. When you add Rick (Larry Manetti) and TC (Roger E. Moseley) you have magic. Magnum PI wasn’t successful because of its action sequences or the cases Magnum solved. It was great because of the characters and the chemistry the actors brought to the relationships. Magnum had some of television’s firsts but for me, it’s the friendships that make it great. The Blacklist
The show has always suffered from a divided fan base and I’m really not sure the writers ever (or still don’t) have a game plan for the entire story. Spader continues to excel, even when they only give him a few scenes per episode choosing to focus on other characters and storylines. Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) was my second favorite character and I still (I don’t believe he’s really dead) ship him and Elizabeth (Megan Boone). Whether The Blacklist stays in my top three or moves down in the list, to be replaced, will depend on how the show handles the reveal from the season five finale. I am firm in my belief that Reddington truly is Reddington.
