Written by Erica Rose Jackson This is probably going to be a very boring post for y’all because I don’t use very many apps. My biggest interests are social media and entertainment based. So, what apps am I using the most? Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Instasize, Gmail, and Google Drive are my most used. I don’t play games on my phone. I was playing PokemonGo but not as much as of late because it got old. I am probably on Twitter and Instagram more than any other app on my phone. Twitter is a lot of fun because it lets me connect with people who have similar interests through the use of hashtags. I’ve had a lot of cool interactions with people and celebs through Twitter. It also gives me a great view of what’s going on in the world since I don’t really watch the news. I use Instagram more to post a quick pic or add to my story then anything else but there are days when I like to scroll through my feed and see what everyone’s up to. Sorry, this one is so short but I warned y’all in the first sentence that this wouldn’t be very in depth. Hopefully, the next topic is a lot more relevant to me. Until then!

Written by Erica Rose Jackson ABC gave us Whiskey Cavalier in late February as a mid-season release and I thought it was a hit based on everything I saw regarding the show. But, it turns out I was very wrong because ABC announced the cancellation before the finale of season one even aired. Whiskey Cavalier is a special show because it's different from everything else on television. It has elements of every genre, a cast with exceptional chemistry, and a strong fanbase. What more can any of us do to save our shows when the ones that have it all don’t stand a chance? Here are the reasons someone needs to save Whiskey Cavalier. 5. The Story This show began in a way I never would have expected any show to start and that was with Scott Foley’s character, Will Chase ‘Whiskey’, crying over his ex full-on jamming to ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’. He is a soft-hearted spy and a complete badass, ladies and gentleman, and that is a new TV character I am here for. We see his weakness again in a gun chase when he’s distracted by an engagement on the streets and gets himself shot. Whiskey goes on another mission and meets the spy who is the exact opposite of him and she is Lauren Cohan’s, Frankie Trowbridge. We all ship Frankie and Whiskey along with the rest of their team (who I’ll discuss in a moment). Whiskey Cavalier is the spy story we haven’t had and that’s rare today, in a world filled with remakes and reboots, so it deserves more and so do we. 4. The Characters I already touched on Scott Foley’s, Whiskey so I’ll jump into the rest of the cast. Lauren Cohan left The Walking Dead and Maggie behind to become Frankie Trowbridge and I want to know where she’s been all my life. Frankie is the opposite of Whiskey in every way. She doesn’t do feelings or long attachments and she’s quick to make a call in the field making her dangerous. Cohan does an amazing job with this role and she needs to be allowed to continue Frankie’s story because there is so much more to discover. Plus, we all need to see how Frankie and Whiskey end up. Whiskey has a best friend/therapist named Susan Sampson, played by Ana Ortiz who is the voice of reason among this ragtag team of spies. Susan has her fun too but she the character who anyone can bring their problems to and she’ll help them. Ortiz is a lot of fun as Susan and we were really just starting to pull back the layers of her character. There are two tech nerds in team Whiskey and they are Edgar Standish, played by Tyler James Williams, and Jai Datta, played by Vir Das. Standish is actually a mark early on in the show but becomes a member of the team but he has no spy experience. He is one of my favorite characters on the show. Datta is socially awkward but a genius. Watching Vir Das work on this character and slowly bring him out of his shell as the season has progressed has been magnificent. Finally, there’s Ray Prince, played by my Quantico crush Josh Hopkins. Ray is Whiskey’s best friend who stole his fiance putting them on the outs before the pilot ends. But Ray is a lovable goofball who is hard to hate. I’m glad Hopkins isn’t the big bad this time around, or at least I hope he isn’t because that really made me sad last time. 3. The Comedy Everyone on this show is funny but Standish takes the cake on laugh count. The characters tease each other constantly adding to the fun each episode brings. And while there is a lot of comedy, Whiskey Cavalier can still bring the drama making it a really well rounded and balanced show. The writing team knows just how many funny quips and one-liners to throw in without making it obnoxious. 2. The Theme Song I’m not sure I’ve ever felt so strongly for a show’s theme that I would put it in a list of reasons it should be saved but there’s a first time for everything. In the pilot, they use John Newman’s ‘Love Me Again’ in the scene where Whiskey sees the engagement to introduce the show but after that, it is the intro song that plays along with the credits. ‘Love Me Again’ is an excellent song without anything attached to it but the way it works with this show just makes it even more perfect. Things that work this well together are meant to last. 1. The Chemistry Whiskey and Frankie have an intense chemistry that can be seen from episode one and is even acknowledged already between the pair. Lots of people love the slow burn but sometimes when the show takes too long to put two characters together, it doesn’t even work when it finally happens. This relationship is refreshing because it has been transparent from the beginning. They’re not together yet but the way the writers are handling this romance has been awesome. All the characters have amazing chemistry with each other. Watching them makes you feel like you’re watching a real team work together to solve problems and stop bad guys. It’s rare to find an entire cast that works so well together that on screen everything comes off as seamless and that’s not something that should be wasted. Don’t miss the last two #WhiskeyWednesdays on ABC at 10/9c! If you haven’t watched this amazing show then go to Hulu and catch up! Hopefully, someone sees the awesome potential Whiskey Cavalier is offering and blesses us with a season two.

There is no easy yes or no answer to this question because not every story needs an epilogue while some really, really do. I believe this answer is very dependent on the content and ending of an author’s tale. It’s also based on whether the writer wants to add one or not. Do the characters have a future that needs to be shared in a short way at least one year after the main story’s ending? Sometimes they do and an epilogue is a perfect way to share what your characters are up to without writing a second book or adding too many unnecessary details to the current one. Harry Potter, for example, was a great epilogue opportunity because readers had followed those characters for seven books and they want to know what happens after everything was all said and done. Obviously, stories with a clear cut ending don’t need any further explanations because there is literally nothing else to tell. So as I said at the beginning of this post, the answer all depends on the story in question. There is no right or wrong when it comes to adding an epilogue to your work. Written by Erica Rose Jackson This one has many answers, ok a few, because I write at different times and in different places. My ideal writing location is at home, in my bed, which means I’m in lounge clothes or pjs. Sometimes I write when I’m at work (discreetly) and when that’s the case then I’m in work clothes. That is not the most comfortable but the pressure and possible lack of time do yield pretty good results most of the time. I’m also in work clothes when I write at Barnes and Noble. Sometimes I’ll be on a roll but I have to get going so I take my laptop and go there before to maximize my writing time. I always have my hair up when I’m writing because I feel like I can’t see anything when its down. I can actually see but once an idea gets in your brain then you can’t unthink it. Right now, my hair is in a bun (it’s too tight), I’m on a couch with my feet up in pajamas and a comfy sweater because it’s impossible to write with a blanket wrapped around your shoulders. I have a beer and a Pepsi by my side for creative inspiration and I’m ready to go. What about y’all in the writing community, what do you write in? What’s your perfect writing environment? Share in the comments! PS: This blog challenge is going to destroy me because it’s so tedious and I can’t choose my topics. Give me strength! Written by Erica Rose Jackson I didn’t start really cooking until about eight years ago. Before that, I cook a lot of pasta (not the homemade kind) and tacos because that’s what I knew. Those recipes started getting old pretty quickly for myself and my family so I started looking up easy things to make which opened my horizons. Don’t get me wrong, I am still not a super chef by any means, but I have some easy meals that I can do well. Meatball subs This one is literally the best and everyone loves it. All you need are frozen meatballs, sauce, shredded mozzarella and sub rolls. It takes less then forty-five minutes and there is minimal preparation. I make this anytime we’re going to have people over or I need to bring a dish somewhere. It’s similar to stuffed shells in easiness but better because stuffing those shells with the cheese mixture can take a few minutes (and there’s always extra). I have some other ones and I’ll attach my quick guide to my favs for you to enjoy! What are some of your go-to dinners? Share in the comments because I am always looking for new ideas! |
