Written by Erica Rose Jackson I’m sitting here, twenty-nine years old, wondering what my earliest memory is. A lot of times, they tend to be more traumatic because bad memories stick better then good ones, but I’m trying to remember my earliest that didn’t involve tears. That’s not to say that I had a lot of memories where crying was involved, because I didn’t, but for this week’s blog, I want to focus on something happier. When I was five years old, my Uncle took me to see Star Wars: A New Hope when it was re-released in theaters, and I left the movie absolutely in love with it. I wanted to be Princess Leia and I was in love with Han Solo, which meant Harrison Ford as well. I was so into Ford that I would argue with my friends’ Moms over him. I was convinced, from the age of five until ten (when I discovered George Clooney), that I would win Harrison Ford if the situation ever presented itself.

Written by Erica Rose Jackson I’m going to try and commit to a blog challenge where I post one a week for fifty-two weeks. This first one is about my favorite piece of writing. I have a few that I would consider my favorites, but for this post I’ll choose the first story Kristie and I ever finished and turned out amazing. It was our Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter fanfiction, which we published six years ago. What makes me proud of this particular work? I think the biggest aspect of this story, versus other things I’ve done, boils down to it being the first thing Kristie and I finished together that was really good. We have gone back to write another story, like it, but haven’t been able to because what we have is exactly what we wanted and nothing will measure up to it. Finishing It’s Not So Dark At Night was a moment of immense pride for she and I, over six years ago. We had started so many projects, which remain unfinished to this day, but we wrote this one from beginning to end. When I run into writer’s block on a new project which range from fan fiction to beyond, these days, I go back to our Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter fic to figure out what made it so easy to write and complete. Looking back doesn’t alway answer my questions because sometimes there is no magic answer to get your creativity going again, but it still inspires me because it is like my first child. It's Not So Dark At Night took a lot of work, but it was worth it, and Kristie and I will always cherish our first joint fanfic completion. |
