Dr. Alan Grant (Jurassic Park) Alan Grant (Sam Neil) is easily the best character across the entire Jurassic Park/World franchise. Dr. Malcolm is an excellent second best but the chaos theory can’t hold a candle to the Dinosaur Man. I am more than a little excited to see Grant coming back in the next Jurassic film (though, I am truly hoping they aren’t planning on killing him off). What’s not to love about this character? He’s intelligent, handsome, kind (even if he’s a bit rough around the edges at first). I’d trust him with my life if dinosaurs came back today, no doubt! Severus Snape (Harry Potter)
Quint (Jaws) Jaws has been my favorite movie since I was seven years old. I have loved many movies since that time, but this film remains at the very top. Quint played expertly by Robert Shaw, has a lot to do with that fact. One of the aspects of Jaws that makes it so special is the chemistry between the main three actors. There is just something special about Quint that makes him stand out among the rest. Maybe it’s his larger-than-life persona, or his songs, or his witty lines. Whatever it is that makes me adore Quint so dearly definitely qualifies him to be on this list. “Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies…” Spock (Star Trek)
Will Dormer (Insomnia) Will Dormer is a fictional character you may have never even heard of, but he’s very special to me. Insomnia was the very first Al Pacino movie I ever saw and in it, he played Detective Will Dormer. I fell instantly in love with Pacino when I watched this film and it started a lifelong appreciation of Pacino and all of his work. I love Pacino and so many of the fictional characters he’s brought to life, but Dormer was my first. Because of that, he belongs on this list. Pacino brought such a presence to this role that it could be considered and should be, one of his best performances from over the years.
